Hospital Price Transparency
Bigfork Valley Hospital Pricing
The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) require standard hospital charges be available online as part of the 2019 inpatient and long-term care hospital prospective payment system (IPPS/LTCH PPS) rule. Effective January 1, 2021, CMS expanded its transparency initiative, requiring hospitals to display shoppable services in a consumer-friendly format.
Bigfork Valley supports the price transparency initiatives to assist patients in understanding their potential financial liability for services. These tools are provided for information only and should not be utilized to accurately estimate the final patient cost. Hospital charges are the amount a hospital bills an insurer for a service. For most patients, hospitals are reimbursed at a level well below charges. Patients covered by commercial insurance products have negotiated rates with hospitals. Patients covered by Medicare or Medicaid programs have hospital reimbursement rates determined by federal and state governments. The charges contained in these tools may not reflect the actual reimbursement rates to Bigfork Valley, as a variety of factors contribute to the actual reimbursement rates.
